NCE Win the 'Hat Trick' at the 2009 Storage Awards. 11th June, 2009 NCE Computer Group, leading Service Company and Data Storage & Virtualisation Reseller, collected a total of three top honours at this year’s Storage Industry awards held at the Tower Hotel in Central London.
The diversity of the NCE business was reflected in the Awards that NCE scooped on the night: ‘Service Company of the Year’, ‘Green Storage Solution of the Year’ and ‘Disaster Recovery & Backup Solution of the Year'. The Storage Awards (or ‘Storries’ as they are known in the industry) are based on votes from readers of the Storage magazine, the UK’s number one IT Storage Magazine. The 'Green Storage Solution of the Year' award is a relatively new category introduced at last year’s Storage Awards, recognising the Storage industry’s need to take an ethical standpoint by reducing energy consumption and increasing the efficiency by optimizing the storage use. This award was presented to NCE in light of a solution installed at the Open University Knowledge Media Institute (KMi), based in Milton Keynes. NCE worked with the IT team at the KMi to design, implement and support the solution, with reductions in power and efficiency at the foundation of the architecture. The 'Disaster Recovery & Backup solution of the year' award was presented to NCE for a solution implemented at the University of Exeter. This solution comprised of best of breed technologies, from BakBone, Qualstar, and Nexsan. At the core of the solution is BakBone NetVault, a Heterogeneous Backup Software application, with features including Disk Staging and Smart Client technology. The Nexsan SATAbeast provides the disk storage capacity for the “staged” backup process, with long-term removable off-site storage provided in the form of the Qualstar Series 8000 tape library based on the Enterprise class LTO4 tape format. “The University of Exeter is proud to receive this award. As a leading research-based University the storage and backup of our data is critical to the service we provide" says Mike Walton, IT Director at the University of Exeter, “NCE have been a long standing partner of the University and have provided us with good advice, solutions and service throughout the relationship. This award is testimony to how NCE have supported the University in building a world-class solution. Backup is an essential part of the IT estate, and the solution provides the scalability and the flexibility that we need.”
Winning the ‘Service Company of the Year’ award further recognises NCE’s ability to provide a comprehensive range of Data Storage services, which demonstrate insight and adaptation in an industry constantly moving forward. "Three awards at such a prestigious and industry endorsed event is a great outcome for us." says Jim Raven, CEO of NCE. "It's good to know we are still recognised as an industry leader at a service level, but also to be awarded for two outstanding solutions, designed and implemented by NCE Professional Services, in two of the UK's largest education establishments is a tremendous achievement.”
